== History ==
The University of Maryland Language House Immersion Program was founded in 1989 and is the oldest living-learning program at the University of Maryland, College Park. It has been under the direction of Dr. Phoenix Liu since 2002.〔 The ten language "clusters" (Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Persian, Russian, German, and Hebrew) each have a mentor who is a high-level, native or near-native speaker of the target language. The mentor organizes meetings, group lessons, and helps students improve their grammar and vocabulary.
